Twin Rivers Opportunities, Inc. (TRO) was developed in 1966 as a non-profit agency.  Their mission is to provide housing assistance and homeownership opportunities to the very low and lower income families residing in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties. Their services are provided through three departments.

1. HUD Section 8 Rental Assistance

   A. Assistance is provided as funding becomes available. The wait may be 6 months to 2 years.

   B. To place name on waiting list, the following information needs to be written, placed in an

        envelope and sent to the above address. (The mailing date determines placement on list):

        Names, ages, dates of birth, sex, & social security numbers of all household members.
        The
mailing address and  telephone number
        The total household income for the year
        note if the head of household is disabled.

   C. Benefits

            - Assistance with housing costs (include electric, water & rent) depending on household
                        income.
            - The unit is inspected and recertified each year.  No payment to owner if repairs not made.

   D. When funding available,  TRO will direct you in the process of finding a suitable unit to rent.

2. Housing Counseling

   A. These services are available and free to anyone interested in homeownership.

    B. Topics covered:

3. Weatherization (Assistance program to make homes energy efficient)

    A. Program available to families with incomes below 150% of poverty threshold.

    B. There is a waiting list. The elderly, disabled and families with children have priority.

    C.  Services include energy audit, sealing air leaks, installing insulation and smart
               thermostats,
replacing existing lighting with energy efficient bulbs, and doing tune-
               ups and repairs to heating
and cooling systems.

    D. To apply, complete the application which will include copy of deed showing ownership, proof of

         household income, and utility costs for past year
