Location:
The local office is located in the Department of Social Services at 2818 Neuse Blvd.

This office covers Craven and Carteret Counties and provides adjustment services to enable the blind and visually impaired to be as independent as possible at home, at work, and in their community.

Cost & Eligibility:
Anyone having a documented visual impairment is eligible.  There are no income restrictions and there are no fees.

Services provided in this area are counseling, case management, teaching adaptive techniques, and basic training devices.  Counselors and Rehab Specialists are sent from the Wilmington office or the Greenville office to work with the clients in their homes or at a designated training area.  There are also support groups for clients and their families.

Referrals can be made by anyone.  Contact is made by telephone to determine interest in the program; a doctor’s eye report is necessary.  A home visit is made to do an assessment and complete a service plan and application.
