This program provides opportunities to seniors in Craven, Carteret, Pamlico, and Lenior Counties and is sponsored by Coastal Community Action, Inc. 

It offers healthy seniors age 60 and above meaningful volunteer opportunities to give a helping hand to a fellow senior who is in need because of mental disabilities, physical disabilities, or physical frailty.   

Work location:  You would spend time with the client in their home or drive them to see a friend, visit a Doctor or do some errands (a minimum of 15 volunteer hours a week is required by funding source).

Hours:  A care plan is put in place reflecting the days and hours of service
                Fix a light meal and eat with the client.
                Assist
client with some of his/her personal care.
                Encourage
client to take a walk for exercise and to take their medicine.
                Accompany person to recreational and social events.
                Do light cleaning.
                You are not a nurse or a maid - no hands on care or heavy cleaning

Benefits: Pre-service and on going training.
                  An annual physical examination.
                  Liability insurance provided during volunteer service time.
                  Help with meal and transportation costs.
                  Small stipend for those who qualify.
                  Stipend is tax free, sick time and annual leave can be accumulated.
