Emergency Assistance by Appointment

The Salvation Army offers assistance with Clothing, Food, Rent, Medical and Furniture. Please call the main office to schedule an appointment. On the day of your appointment please bring the following:
□ Picture ID and Social Security Card □ Verification of income
□ Social Security Cards for all household members □ Proof of monthly expenses

Food: The Food Pantry is located in our main office building. On the day of your appointment, please bring your Dept. of social services referral, or another recognized agency. Please tell us if your special circumstances prevent you from obtaining a referral.

Clothing and Furniture: Family Store vouchers are provided for clothing and furniture. Your voucher, which is date and time specific for you convenience, is to be given to the cashier at the store. Coats and jackets are provided in the fall and winter months. Essential pieces of furniture are provided to fire, storm or flood victims. Fire damage requires a fire report and referral from the Red Cross.

Utility/Rental: For utility assistance, please provide your original utility bill with your name and current address on the bill. For rental assistance you will be given a form that you landlord will need to fill out. Bring the form with you on the day of your appointment, along with proof that you will be able to pay the balance of your rent and the Salvation Army may pay up to $100.00 toward your rent.

Medical: The Salvation Army will assist with heart and blood pressure medications. Bring you original prescription on the day of your appointment.

Other Assistance: The night feeding program at RCS, Coats for families or individuals, Backpacks for school children, Adult rehabilitation (drugs & alcohol), and Christmas assistance.

The Salvation Army Family Stores are throughout the area. Used clothing, furniture and household goods are sold inexpensively. Profits used to defray the costs of emergency assistance. The stores are at:

The Salvation Army Church is located at 802 North Craven Street (next to the New Bern Family Store). For information on worship services call the office at 637-2277. The Tryon Palace Women’s Ministries meets each Thursday at 10:30 AM. Call for transportation accommodation.
