Directions: Traveling east, turn left off Hwy 55 onto Main Street just past Food Lion Shopping Center in Grantsboro. Senior Center will be on the right approximately 3/4 mile.

COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM FOR DISABLED ADULTS & CHILDREN   Medicaid program, which provides services which makes care at home a real possibility for many who face nursing home placement.

PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistance program
 

MEDICATION/DISEASE MANAGEMENT
On-site pharmacist evaluates medications and identifies potential drug utilization issues.  Prescription Assistance Coordinator assists seniors and other low-income residents in completing applications for free drugs.
 

NUTRITION
Nutritious lunches are served at the Center five days a week as well as delivered to homebound older adults.

NUTRITION SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM                                                  
Nutritional supplements, such as Ensure, Glucerna, etc., offered at reduced rates for those who qualify.

LEGAL
Legal services provided by Legal Aide of NC, which offers information, advice and representation to those who qualify.     
 

FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM
Respite care program provides in-home aide assistance to caregivers.
 

TAX ASSISTANCE
AARP offers tax preparation assistance by persons experienced in filing taxes. 
 

HEALTH PROMOTION
Health screenings, exercise classes, seminars, as well as an annual health fair are offered.

SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program)
Trained local volunteers offer free insurance guidance and information.

SMALL HOME REPAIR
Volunteer local carpenters construct ramps, renovate railing, etc, to aid in mobility and ensure homes are safe.
 

TELEPHONE REASSURANCE
A member of our staff provides a brief, daily telephone call to an elderly or disabled person to verify their well being, as well as provide assistance if necessary.
 

SENIOR GAMES/SILVER ARTS
Participants, over 55 years of age, compete against other individuals in the same age and sex categories in a variety of athletic and artistic events. 

   Athletic events are bowling, cycling, swimming, golf, horseshoes, track and field, tennis shuffleboard, table tennis, and many others.

   Silver Arts events are in three categories: 1) Heritage, 2) Visual, and 3) Literary.
The games are held in the Spring.  Qualifiers in local games may go on to the State finals in Raleigh.

CLASSES
Pamlico Community College sponsors many classes free to seniors 65 years of age and older.  Classes at the Center include: Adult Basic Education, Crafts, Painting, and Basket Weaving.  “55 Alive” is a refresher course, sponsored by AARP, for drivers over 50 to help them improve their driving skills and prevent accidents. 

ACTIVITIES:
Trips, Singing, Line Dancing, Bingo, Bridge, Stained Glass, Supper Clubs, Concerts, Yard Sales, and Seminars.
