OUT OF TOWN MEDICAL TRANSPORT

 

For disabled veterans only:
5 days a week Monday through Friday a van leaves the McDonald Restaurant (Glenburnie & Neuse Blvd) at 5:00 AM to go to the Durham VA Hospital. Be sure to be on time as the van leaves punctually at 5:00 AM.  It leaves Raleigh for the return trip no later than 3 PM. Make travel appointment by calling the Disabled American Veterans at 252-638-5900.  There is no cost for travel. Be sure to call 48 hours ahead of time.

There is transport available to the VA Clinic in Greenville and Morehead City on call.

CARTS  
 
 CARTS is a Regional Transportation System serving Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties.  CARTS provides travel within Craven, Jones & Pamlico Counties Monday Through Friday.  Transportation is also provided outside of the 3 county area on various days including the Triangle Area, Greenville, Morehead and Kinston on a regularly scheduled bases.  A Medicaid client must make arrangements to travel through their caseworker.  All others (including Veterans) should contact CARTS directly at 252-636-4917 at least 48 working hours prior to the trip.  Cost of the trip depends on grant eligibility criteria and includes funding from the Rural Operating Assistance Program-Elderly/Disabled Transportation Assistance Program, Rural General Public and Employment.  CARTS uses 14 passenger standard vans, 12 passenger high-top, and 9 passenger wheelchair equipped vehicles.  Contact CARTS Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm at 252-636-4917

Shriners (Sudan Temple)
Only available for children sponsored by the Shriners and going to a Shriner’s Hospital for care.  These hospitals are located in Greenville SC, Cincinnati OH, Lexington KY, and Boston, MA.  Transportation is provided for the child and one parent or guardian.

The Shrine sponsors only children with special injuries or disabilities. Contact a Shriner or call 637-5197 and speak to Donna Horton for more information.
