The Foster Grand Parent Program is run by Coastal Community Action and is available in Craven, Carteret, Pamlico and Jones Co. It is federally funded with a 10% local match. This service is contracted with non-profit agencies that work with or care for children who may have developmental problems, need academic assistance, have behavioral problems, etc. Children with a special need are identified and then referred by workstation supervisors/coordinators who man workstations located within non-profit agencies. The child is then matched to a foster grandparent along with a “Child accomplishment plan.” The grandparent may provide from 15 - 40 hrs per week with the child if it is required. Before any one can serve
as a foster grandparent a criminal background check is done as well as a
physical exam including a T. B.
screening is completed. They receive pre-service orientation and are
provided with monthly in-service training programs. This service is free but donations are welcome to support the program. 10/2008 |
