The Foster Grand Parent Program is run by Coastal Community Action and is available in Craven, Carteret, Pamlico and Jones Co. It is federally funded with a 10% local match. This service is contracted with non-profit agencies that work with or care for children who may have developmental problems, need academic assistance, have behavioral problems, etc. Children with need are identified and then referred by workstation supervisors/coordinators who man workstations located within non-profit agencies. The child is then matched to a foster grandparent along with a “Child accomplishment plan.” The grandparent may provide up to 20 hrs per week with the child if it is required. Before any one can serve
as a foster grandparent, criminal background checks are done and T. B.
screening is completed. They receive pre-service orientation and are
provided with monthly in-service training programs. This service is free but donations are welcome to support the program. 2/2007 |
