Carolina Donor Services is a federally-designed organ procurement organization serving 79 counties of North Carolina and Danville, Virginia.  This includes four transplant centers that perform life-saving heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas transplants.

Carolina Donor Services is dedicated to all aspects of organ and tissue donation.  They coordinate the entire organ and tissue donation process for the region and provide public and professional education about donation.

 To become a donor:
           
Say “yes” to donate on your driver’s license.
            Sign and carry a Donor Card.
            Tell your family your wishes.

  Organs that can be donated:

            Heart, Liver, Lungs, Pancreas, Kidney, Small Intestines

 Tissues that can be donated:

            Skin, Bone, Corneas, Heart Valves and Veins

There is no cost to the donor’s family.

It will not affect the quality of medical care received.

There is no age limit as all donors are evaluated on an individual basis.

There will be no delay in funeral arrangements and open casket viewing is no problem.

If you wish to donate only certain organs, this can be specified on your Donor Card. 

If you wish you can also donate your whole body to a medical school for research. 

North Carolina’s 4 medical schools require donations each year for anatomical study by their medical students.  The knowledge they gain from this study will benefits hundreds of their future patients.
