Purpose: Provide assistance to those who are victims of domestic and family violence who live in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties

Eligibility: Anyone may use their services, including men. (Housing would be very short term at a local motel/hotel)

Cost: There are no charges for the services provided by Coastal Women's Shelter for those who quality

Services:

Confidentiality

Shelter at the Safe House for women and children (males over age 12 are considered on a case by case basis) who are  victims of domestic violence.

Caring, knowledgeable and empathetic advocates and shelter staff provide information and education about domestic violence, safety planning, and goal planning for self sufficiency.

Court assistance to obtain domestic violence protective orders through the courts

Transportation - as necessary

Food and nutrition planning

Clothing, toiletries and personal care items

Helping Hands Shoppe: Vouchers for clothing, furniture, baby items and household goods

New Choices Program:  Education and Training

    Survival Skills Training

    Employment Assistance

Domestic Violence Support Groups for Women and for Children in Craven, Pamlico, and Jones Counties led by
         therapists

Community Awareness and Education

Emergency 911 cell phones

Referrals and Information re: housing, physical and mental health resources, public assistance, immigration, legal issues, etc.

All candidates for the Safe House MUST BE ASSESSED BY CWS STAFF BEFORE ADMITTANCE. During working hours (M-F 8am –5 pm), they will be interviewed by office staff; at all other times, contact our CRISIS LINE for screening at 638-5995.
