Child Care Resource
& Referral Program - 672-5921
www.cravensmartstart.org
A parent counselor can
provide names and addresses of childcare providers in your area. They
will ask the ages and number of children, full time or part time care
required, home address and work address. Your answers will help them to
provide you with a list of child care facilities in your area that are
fitted to your needs. This program is funded by Smart Start and
administered by the Craven County Partnership for Children.
Special Needs
Program (Craven County School System) – 514-4382
This program provides special education services for preschoolers between
3 and 5 years of age.
Child Care Subsidy
through Department of Social Services – 636-4900
This program helps income–eligible families to receive assistance in
paying for childcare. The childcare providers must be licensed or
approved by Social Services to receive childcare subsidy payments from
Social Services.
Before choosing a
childcare provider,
visit several providers and compare. Gather information from friends,
county agencies, and the Internet. They also recommend you visit the
provider of choice several times and take your child with you. Check on
the program, your child’s reaction, and the reaction of the providers to
your child and the children in the program.
Education & Information
through the Internet
www.ncchildcare.net
This site provides names, addresses, and inspection information on area
childcare providers. It also provides a checklist of questions which you
should ask when you go to visit a provider. It explains the star rated
licenses.
