Craven County Recreation & Parks Department

            1. Facilitate recreational activities at Creekside Park
                      
 A. Manage baseball softball, and soccer leagues
                        B. Provide field maintenance

            2. Manage Summer Day Camps
                        A. For children ages 6 – 12
                        B. At Brinson Elementary School, 2 week sessions through summer
                        C.  May to August    

  Special Olympics Program

            1. This program schedule runs from mid August to July of the following year as there are practice session
                throughout the year.

            2. It is for those who are mentally and physically challenged, from the Elementary grades through adult-
                hood and who have had the required physical. The forms for the physical are available at the  R & P office.

            3. There is no entry fee.  Civic organizations and athletes fund the program

            4. There are competitions in track & field, bowling, aquatics, bocce, golf, and basketball.

Through out the year one participates in practice to acquire qualifying scores with a potential to move on to the state and district competitions.   The local Track & Field competition is usually held in May

Volunteer coaches, parents, and marines help with the practice sessions through the year. They are held in the following locations.

                   Bowling practice           -        The Strike Zone

                   Bocce practice             -         Creekside Park

                   Golf practice                 -         Riverbend

                   Basketball practice       -         West New Bern Recreation Center

                   Track & Field               -         Grover C. Fields School

The Special Olympics Program is always looking for new participants and volunteers!
