Adoption Services The Craven County Department of Social Services is located on Neuse Blvd. a quarter mile from Glenburnie Street. Federal, state, and county taxes fund this department; therefore anyone who qualifies under state and county rules is eligible for assistance from this agency. There is no cost for services if one is eligible. For assistance call the above number; ask for the adoption social worker. The worker will do an interview and provide information on different options. A. Keeping and supporting the child 1. Parenting classes 2. Counseling 3. Resource information B. Adoption counseling C. Abortion – referred for counseling D. Out of home placement 1. Counseling 2. Referral to a maternity home 3. Assessment for state maternity home funds. If adoption is selected, the assigned social worker will be available throughout the pregnancy. Assistance may be available in the form of food stamps and health care through Medicaid if the client meets eligibility requirements. No cash money is available. If the client is under
18, a parent or adult payee must be part of the process for the client to
