The Eastern Carolina Council of Government serves: Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, and Wayne Counties. The Area Agency on Aging empowers older adults through education and advocacy. Local Help for Individuals: · Family Caregiver Support Program: Provides counseling, problem solving, access to resources, information and case assistance, and respite care; as well as assistance to the family caregiver to provide the best possible care while maintaining their own health and well being. · Ombudsman Program: Advocates for resident’s rights in nursing homes, adult care facilities, and group homes. Investigates complaints and assists families resolve concerns relating to long term care. Telephone 1-800-824-4648 · Medication Management and Prescription Assistance: Assists seniors cope with the rising costs of prescriptions medication by assessing eligibility for various manufacturers prescription assistance programs and NC Senior Care Program. In addition, brown bag reviews and medication management are offered throughout the community. · Information and Referral: Provides information on resources and services available including those not-for-profit as well as for profit.
