The Anchor House Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program is provided to support and encourage people who suffer from severe mental illness.  The clubhouse is staffed by PORT Human Services employees and clubhouse members.  The clubhouse is a place where people who long to be active participants in a supportive and vital community can come to build on their strengths.  There are opportunities for the members to expand their educational, vocational, and recreational skills.

There are three main work units: clerical, food service, and grounds and facility maintenance.  The tasks for the day are divided among the members.  There are also opportunities for the members to work on special projects throughout the year.

Functions of Work Units

Clerical - Phone, typing, computer, budget, and public relations

Food Service -   Inventory, sales,  cash register, menu planning, comparative shopping, cooking, and  serving

Grounds and Facility Maintenance – cleaning, health and safety, indoor and outdoor plant care, trash removal, recycling, lawn care, and van maintenance.

Employment Program

There is also an Assisted Employment component.  Members who are considered to be “job ready” are guided through the job search process.  Once employed, transportation is provided by the Anchor House Van.

ABE Classes

Adult Basic Education classes are taught on-site by an instructor from Craven Community College.  Classes are held throughout the year on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Those who exceed the ABE level are transported to the college for advanced classes and may obtain their GED.

Transportation to the club can be through CARTS or family members.
